PEPE CAÑABATE
Pepe Cañabate (Palma, 1952) is a self-taught professional photographer based in Mallorca. During the extraordinary circumstance of lockdown, he decided to draw his attention to the rural environment he inhabits. And so, the series ‘Plants’ becomes the artist’s personal interpretation of nature: with the aim to create a dialogue between analog and digital procedures, this project brings nature to a rather artificial territory. Ultimately, these images remind us that, after all, nature’s essence and beauty were indifferent of that state of distorted reality.
Para Pepe Cañabate (Palma, 1952), fotógrafo profesional autodidacta, la extraordinaria situación de confinamiento supuso una oportunidad para centrar su atención en el ambiente rural donde habita. Así, la serie ‘Plants’ se convierte en su interpretación personal de la naturaleza, cuyo objetivo es crear un diálogo entre procesos analógicos y procedimientos pictóricos digitales, y que busca transportar la naturaleza a un territorio un tanto artificial. Son imágenes que nos recuerdan que, al fin y al cabo, la esencia y belleza de la naturaleza fueron ajenas a aquel estado de realidad distorsionada.
