MERCEDES BALLE
Divided between the natural landscape of her home region and the concrete city where she lives, between Mallorca and London, Mercedes Balle’s work consists of an exploration of the human relation to the natural world and an understanding of a landscape that has been modified in all aspects for human needs but in which nature resists its control.
Mercedes' choice of materials really characterises her work; she reuses discarded construction materials to evoke nature in her art. She uses these materials again and again saving them repeatedly from obsolescence. On the other hand, she uses natural materials that are completely biodegradable and will eventually disappear to continue the circle of life.
Divida entre la naturaleza de su lugar de origen y el cemento de la ciudad donde vive, entre Mallorca y Londres, la obra de Mercedes Balle explora las interacciones humanas en el entorno natural y habla sobre un paisaje que ha sido modificado para el uso humano, pero en el que la naturaleza resiste su control.
La elección de los materiales caracteriza significativamente su obra; la artista reutiliza elementos de la construcción para evocar lo salvaje. Estos materiales son reutilizados una y otra vez, salvándose repetidamente de la obsolescencia. Por el otro lado, Mercedes apuesta por materias primas biodegradables que eventualmente desaparecerán y seguirán el ciclo natural.
